Newsletter - April 2002
| Dear
Friends of Holyford Woods We are writing to give you the good news that Holyford Woods have been saved! Through your generosity the magnificent sum of £37,000 was raised in the months between September 2001 and March 2002. We wish to thank you most sincerely for your donation and support. Because of the public interest and support, East Devon District Council voted to donate £30,000 to match the funds raised. In November a successful bid was made and in early March the Holyford Woodland Trust was formed. The main objectives of the Trust are to conserve and manage the woodland with its wildlife, history and archaeology for the benefit of the public. The Trust aims to protect the ancient character and natural beauty of this area of East Devon for the community at large. To mark this successful achievement, the Holyford Woodland Trust are holding a day of celebration. "Bluebell Day" will be held on Sunday May 12th from 10:00am till 5:00pm with an official opening ceremony at 2:00pm. There will be guided walks with information about the woodland and proposals for the future. Transport into the woods will be provided for those with mobility problems. Please walk down to the woods if you can, or share a car. There will be car parking available at the Colyford Memorial Hall and there are also a limited number of spaces at the Tower Picnic site and Horriford Farm. Light refreshments will be available all day or you may like to bring your own picnic. There will also be a craft stall and a plant table, donations to these stalls would be appreciated. Dogs are welcome too, but for this occasion please bring a lead. We hope the woods will be in their full springtime glory and we look forward to seeing you. If you cannot come on May 12th but would like information on future events then please let us know. We hope to set up a register of friends to help support ongoing management needs. Yours sincerely Colin Pady
